Theory and Practice in my teaching philosophy

I really like what the author wrote about motivation in the classroom. Rewards are what some theorists believe help students learn, and that they learn in order to receive rewards. I also believe that students learn because they want to succeed and want praise. They like to contribute if we allow them to and if we take into account their history and culture and make them important. In my teaching philosophy the environment that I wrote about would include an open learning environment that takes into account the diversity of my classroom and the importance that I give them is a form of motivation.

Three things that are important concerning my teaching philosophy

I am still working on this of course.

I know for a fact that I would hold thinking outside of the box highly, especially students creating their own opinions and analyzing them and not branching off of what they think I want to hear.

I also hold learning environment to be a function that is conducive to learning, meaning I would like a democratic classroom where students are encouraged to interact not just listen to me as if I were a dictator.

I believe that raising the bar and creating a high level of expectations for my students as well as an equal opportunity to learn are necessary for my classroom to function.

keep in mind this is definitely subject to change but these are very important to me right now.

Life Map

For my life map I would like to highlight the major events with a beginning, a middle, and an end. For the beginning I would like to start with creation meaning my birth, something symbolic of a childhood, marriage, and the birth of my children and possibly Texas Tech as the end.

Two things that Poe said that I thought were interesting.

Poe was a pretty interesting guy even without the opium. I thought what he wrote about the length of poetry was great because I hate poetry that is not designed cleverly enough to engage the reader and be devised well enough to not have to ramble on for pages. Length can sometimes turn a reader off. I also liked how he knew there were basic components he needed like a repetitive word, pentameter, and then like it to a "universal idea". For instance we all associate black, raven, and nevermore with death.

This is what I want my ePortfolio to look like!

I would like for my ePortfolio to look neat and organized and above all professional. It should be creative and hopefully a reflection of my own personality, but still professional. I would like for the creation of the ePortfolio to be fun and not extremely time consuming with no real benefit. Therefore the benefit of the project would be a result that I would be proud of and could use in my quest for a J-O-B!

What I am siked about and scared about in 3360.

I think that the business card sounds cool but I really think that the writting on rabbit skin is awesome. I am fascinated with old and middle English stuff. I have taken Old and Middle English, the history of the English language, and a class on J.R.R. Tolken and I think the way manuscripts were done then were incredible. Although were the rabbits eaten is my question. I would like to think that they were therefore the skins would not be the result of murdering my rabbit. Enough with rabbit tales, I am scared about the ePortfolio! I have used imovie before and made a short movie for Dr. Hammans class but I am still feeling a bit overwhelmed.

This is what I would do if I was not here right now!

If I was not here I would be picking up my kids. They go to daycare half a day and basically eat lunch, play, and take a nap. Then I would get home and do a million things that I do every day, boring stuff like wash clothes, do dishes, make dinner and then fun stuff like play with the kids, read a book, and watch my show Nip/Tuck.
Thats all, Marisa Ramirez
